Big Conversation About Big Challenge in Public Schools

Too little input from teachers and other education experts. That’s what a House Public Education Committee panel heard last week from a long line of people testifying about flawed new curriculum standards proposed by the State Board of Education (SBOE).

Donna was there, too, to lament that the highly politicized standard-setting process ignored suggestions from teachers and other education experts who will be charged with implementing in the classroom what a 9-member SBOE majority approved in the boardroom.

“Rep. Donna Howard, D-Austin, said the state could be stuck with inadequate standards for a decade because that is the next time the curriculum is scheduled to be revised,” the Dallas Morning News reported.

“The thought that we’re going to let 10 years go down the drain is of extreme concern to me,” Donna said, as quoted by the Dallas Morning News. Click Here For Article.
