Campaign Update - Wednesday, June 23, 2009

TIME SHORT. GIVE NOW. (PLEASE.)

The 140-day regular session of the Texas Legislature has ended. So has the Governor’s three-week veto period. That means that summer’s here, and the time is right... to plan for next year’s elections.

Which means I have to ask you once again to make sure I have the resources to run a winning campaign.

Time is short, too. State law prohibits fundraising when the Legislature is meeting, which it looks like we will be again next month when the Governor calls lawmakers back to the Capitol for a special session. It’s a narrow window.

In these troubled economic times, I hope you can afford to help me make a stand against whichever opponent the standard bearers of the status quo eventually recruit against me. Please take a moment to give whatever you can.

Thank you.

LEGISLATIVE SESSION ADDRESSED MORE THAN MET THE EYE

The legislative session that just ended may go down in the books as one in which not much was at stake. But the fact is, a lot of work actually got done.

For example, 7,419 bills were filed in the House and Senate combined, an increase of 1,229 from two years ago, on issues ranging from reforming our state schools to improving our windstorm insurance system.

My regular column in this month’s Westlake Picayune takes a closer look and some of the critical bills I worked on.  You can click here to read it.
