House District 48 currently includes parts of Austin, Cedar Park, and Leander in addition to the cities of Rollingwood, Westlake Hills, Lago Vista, Jonestown, and the Village of Volente. The district also encompasses portions of unincorporated Travis County and the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. Residents of HD 48 attend one of six school districts - Austin ISD, Eanes ISD, Lago Vista ISD, Leander ISD, Marble Falls ISD, or Pflugerville ISD.
The new House map approved during the most recent legislative session, included significant changes to District 48. Those changes remained in the interim map that will be used to conduct the 2012 elections. The district will now include the cities of Rollingwood, Westlake Hills, and Sunset Valley, and a much larger part of the City of Austin. The majority of the district falls in Austin and Eanes ISDs with very small portions of Leander ISD and Round Rock ISD. A map showing the new boundaries of HD 48 appears below.
